What is Mustache Wax?

Mustache wax is, above all else, a styling product. In fact, of all the products designed to offer hold for your facial hair, mustache wax is the strongest. This product can be used in your beard as well and delivers a strong, long-lasting hold to control those flyaways or keep your style looking great all day. 

It’s the tool of choice for those with more gravity-defying beard a mustache styles and can be a life save for any of you Kingsmen out there who struggle with flyaways and stray hairs.

How is Mustache Wax Different From Beard Balm?

In short, mustache wax has a higher wax content than beard balm, giving it more strength when it comes to styling and hold. Both mustache wax and beard balm contain wax, often beeswax, which acts as the muscle, strong-arming all those stray whiskers that can make your beard or mustache look untidy.

How to Use Mustache Wax

Do not apply your mustache wax directly after you’ve used beard oil in your mane. Give the beard oil time to absorb first, between 5 and ten minutes. Freshly-applied beard oil will make the surface of your whiskers slick, and the wax just won’t grip. 

That being said, here are step-by-step instructions for how to use mustache wax:

1. Once your oil has absorbed, pop your mustache wax tin in a warm face cloth or your back pocket for a minute or two to warm it up a little bit, making it easier to work with. 
2. You’ll want to start with a small amount. Using too much mustache wax can lead to your beard looking stiff and uninviting. A pea-sized amount of facial hair wax is a good start. 
3. Rub the product between your hands to melt it a little bit. 
4. When the mustache wax is emulsified and spread evenly between both palms and your fingertips, begin to work it in where you need hold and control. 
5. Use your palms to smooth over the outside of your beard, while your fingertips can be used for smaller, more intricate details, like your mustache. 
6. Once you’ve created the style you like, run a boar’s hair beard brush over your beard for even distribution and a little extra neatness. 

 

 

How Much Mustache Wax Should I Use?

We recommend starting with a pea-sized amount, but it’s all going to depend on how long your beard and mustache are as well as how complicated your style is. 

Kingsmen entering beard style contests are going to use a lot more mustache wax than a Kingsmen who’s just headed to work and needs a neat and tidy mane. 

Trial and error is your friend, here but always start small with mustache wax. 

It’s easier to add more mustache wax than it is to take it out of your facial hair. You’ll know you’ve used too much when your beard looks stiff and greasy. 

You’ll also struggle to wash out the build-up your daily mustache wax causes. The right amount of mustache wax will wash out with a beard wash with ease. 

What is the Best Mustache Wax?
